South Korea is one of the world’s largest food-importing countries. It relies on imported products for almost three-quarters of its consumption. Within the Asia Pacific, it is the third largest market for imported consumer food and beverages, with a value of almost $5 billion per annum.

Red Hills Horse Trials
Tallahassee will again be the site of the Red Hills Horse Trails, an annual United States Eventing Association Area III activity. Named for the sloping terrain and rich red earth known as the “Red Hills” of North Florida and South Georgia, the Horse Trials feature a challenging cross-country course. The course was designed by Captain Mark Phillips, Chef d’Equipe and Technical Advisor for the United States Equestrian Team and a former member of the Great Britain Olympic team and built by Schotland’s Hugh Lochore. 2004 International Boston Seafood Show
The Bureau of Seafood and Aquaculture will coordinate and host the Florida Pavilion at the International Boston Seafood Show at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Eight Florida companies present and promote their products within the 600 square foot pavilion. The goal of participating in this event is to promote the attributes of Florida seafood and aquaculture and give companies an opportunity to make new contacts and generate sales. Estimated sales of Florida companies at the 2003 International Boston Seafood Show Florida pavilion were over $3.2 million during the show. Due to the popularity of this show and the sales generated by participants, spaces in the Florida Pavilion are at a premium and are booked quickly. Panama Beef Breeding Cattle Trade Mission
The United States Livestock Export Genetics, Inc., through a proposal submitted by the Florida Department of Agriculture, approved and funded a trade mission to the Feria Internacional de David in David, Panama. This is a well attended event by the livestock producers not only of Panama but other neighboring Central American countries. Cattlemen from Florida, a professor from the University of Florida and a representative from the Florida Department of Agriculture will attend and present a seminar to the Panamanian Cattlemen Association. The purpose of this mission is to expand our markets in this country and meet key players in the livestock industry.

Goat Association Trade Mission
This trade mission will take place in San Jose, Costa Rica, March 29 – April 3, 2004. The Florida Goat Association along with the Florida Department of Agriculture has been invited to participate. Mrs. Ann Winkler and Mr. Tom Winkler will be representing the Florida goat industry at this event. A seminar has been planned with the University of San Jose and the members of the Goat Associations in Costa Rica. A tour of Costa Rica farms is also scheduled. This mission will give Florida producers the opportunity to establish contacts, evaluate potential buyers and present the advantages of Florida-bred goats.
