History and Facts:
Botanically, peanuts are truly peas which look like nuts. Peanuts may be purchased green, roasted in the shell, shelled, or boiled.

Florida ranked sixth in the nation in peanut production in 1997 with 228 million pounds.

Nutritional Value:
Peanuts are a good source of protein, niacin, and potassium, and can be used as meat alternates.

Storage:
Shelled peanuts, packed in cans or in the proper film bags, can be stored up to 2 years. Unshelled nuts can only be stored for about six months.
