Cucumber Facts
Cucumber
  • The cucumber is supposedly a native of India, although plant explorers have never been able to discover a wild prototype. Reliable records indicate it was used as a food in Ancient Egypt, and was a popular vegetable with the Greeks and Romans. Columbus brought cucumbers to the New World.
  • Floridas cucumber production hit a 12-year low in 1997-98, but the third highest prices in history netted value of $56 million.
  • Palm Beach is the states leading cucumber-producing county, accounting for 22 percent of the crop in 1997-98.
