Dairy Facts 
- Florida remains the leading dairy state in the Southeast, producing 271 million gallons of milk in 1998.
- Florida ranks 13th nationally in cash receipts for milk, 15th nationally in milk production, and 15th in the number of dairy cows.
- Okeechobee remains the major milk-producing county in Florida with 21 dairies and 36,000 cows that produced 61 million gallons of milk in 1998.
- Three Florida counties (Okeechobee, Lafayette and Gilchrist) combined to produce more than 100 million gallons of milk, and accounted for nearly 40 percent of the states 1998 production.
