Florida Agricultural Facts Food Expense and Farmer's Share of Food Dollar |

All food expenditures for U.S. families and individuals totaled $663.3 billion in 1998.
Food spending accounted for only 11.0 percent of the total disposable personal income, down slightly from 1997.
Consumers spent $584.6 billion for U.S. - produced food in 1998, with farmers receiving only a 20.3 percent share of the food dollar. The remaining 79.8 percent of the American food dollar went for marketing, processing, wholesaling, transportation and retailing.
