About the Award

Dear Friends of Agriculture:

The "Woman of the Year in Agriculture" award ceremony is always a much-anticipated event, adding to the excitement of opening-day festivities at the Florida State Fair. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has been proud to sponsor this prestigious award in conjunction with the Florida State Fair Authority since 1985.

This award spotlights the vital role of women in Florida agriculture and serves to encourage other women to get involved in the business.

Many women have made significant contributions over the years in developing and sustaining what is now a $7 billion industry. I invite you to read the brief accounts of their exceptional lives at the "Previous Winners" section of this web site.

I encourage everyone familiar with Florida agriculture to take a moment to consider who should be nominated for the 2002 award. Nominees will be judged by a panel familiar with Florida agriculture. The criteria for nominees and the nomination form are online. If you need additional information about the award or nomination process, please contact us by mail, telephone or email.

I look forward to seeing you at opening-day ceremonies at the Florida State Fair to honor the Woman of the Year in Agriculture and to celebrate the traditions of this great industry that we all treasure.

Charles H. Bronson
Commissioner of Agriculture
