History and Facts:
Also known as Nashi, apple, Chinese and Oriental pear, it is the oldest cultivated pear known. Asian pears originated in Japan and have a clear yellow, brown, or yellow-brown skin; those from China are clear-skinned, and green-yellow. The Asian pear's ripeness is based on fragrant aroma. Unlike other pears, this produce is ripe even when it does not yield to pressure.
An average-size Asian pear has 61 calories and contains vitamins A and C.
Asian pears should be kept cool and dry.
