Pecans

History and Facts:
Pecans are popular because they grow well domestically. Pecans have a variety of uses, but mostly are popular as an ingredient in mixed cocktail nuts, pecan pies, fruit salads, and pastries. Pecans may be purchased in the shell, as halves, or in pieces.

Nutritional Value:
Pecans are a good source of protein and potassium, and can be used as meat alternates.

Storage:
In the proper film bag or can, pecans may be stored for about 2 years at room temperature. Unshelled can only be held for about 6 months at room temperature.

Availability:
October through November
