Southern Produce Promoted in the United Kingdom

TALLAHASSEE The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has teamed up with the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA) and a major retailer in the United Kingdom to promote southern-grown strawberries, blueberries, sweet corn and sweet potatoes. SUSTA has allocated $70,000 to fund the campaign, labeled the "Red,White and Blue" promotion.

The Department will use the money to create colorful new point-of-purchase materials and to conduct demonstrations in nearly 100 Sainsbury stores, a premier retailer in the United Kingdom.

"Our export statistics indicate that the consumer base in the United Kingdom is becoming more familiar with the products we are promoting," Florida Agriculture Commissioner Bob Crawford said. "The purpose of our Red, White and Blue promotion is to increase this familiarity level and show U.K. consumers how Americans enjoy these delicious fruits and vegetables."

The promotion will begin on February 12 with demonstrations featuring Southern strawberries in 24 Sainsbury stores during a three-day period. Representatives from both the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be on hand for the kick off.
