Urban and Community Forestry Programs Across Florida Awarded $356,322 in Federal Grants, Crawford Announces

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida Agriculture Commissioner Bob Crawford today announced that 45 urban and community forestry programs across Florida have been selected to receive a total of $356,322 in federal matching grants.

The grants -- awarded to qualified applicants including local governments, volunteer groups, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions -- are part of the 1998 Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. Grants were awarded on a 50-50 matching basis.

The purpose of the program is to develop and enhance urban and community forestry programs in Florida. Since 1991, Floridas Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program has provided more than $2.75 million to improve the quality of life in communities through tree planting and enhancement of tree management programs.
