Enjoy Wholesome and Delicious Seafood From Florida's Gulf Coast
Snapper, grouper, shrimp, blue crab, oysters and clams. That's just a small sample of the great seafood that Florida's Gulf waters are famous for. And, we're happy to say that all Florida Gulf seafood can be enjoyed with confidence. Florida Gulf seafood was never affected by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. We make sure of its continued safety by regularly testing Florida Gulf seafood using the most stringent standards available.
The food safety laboratories of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have long been ranked among the best of any state in the nation. In addition, we've recently stepped up our sampling and lab testing of Florida Gulf seafood products. This extra scrutiny means that residents and visitors can be assured that Florida's world-famous seafood is safe and wholesome.
Current analyses by the department’s Division of Food Safety include PAH analyses using the liquid chromatography fluorescence screening or gas chromatography mass spectroscopy and analysis of the dispersant, dioctylsulfosuccinate (DOSS) by liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy. Continued testing will assure the safety of Florida’s seafood for several years to come.
