April's purchase of 69 Florida Thoroughbreds by a South Korean delegation yielded $1.3 million for Florida horse breeders. The sale is part of an ongoing multiyear relationship between FDACS and race horse groups in South Korea. The delegation was attending the 2011 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company in Ocala on April 18-21.

FDACS has further expanded its international marketing efforts by adding grocery chains in Sweden and Singapore to its global retail program. FDACS is in its eighth year of helping Florida growers market their products around the world through its "Global Grid" program. In 2011, Florida retail marketing campaigns will be conducted in the United States and 17 other countries. International exports of Florida agricultural products routinely reach 120 markets worldwide.

This spring, FDACS honored the top performers in its "Xtreme Cuisine" nutrition education program. Santa Rosa and Lee County schools taught Xtreme Cuisine concepts to the greatest number of students this year and were rewarded with special cooking demonstrations by Chef Justin Timineri, Florida's culinary ambassador. In Santa Rosa County approximately 4,150 students took part in the Xtreme Cuisine Cooking School during the 2010-2011 school year, and in Lee County the number topped 2,800.
